What kind of writer are YOU?

Since I've yet to start following my own blogging schedule, I thought this was a fun quiz for the writers among us. This result actually surprised me, since I'm not the biggest fan of movies. Not that I don't like them, but it's hard for me to sit still for two hours. Millions of people watching my stories onscreen sounds pretty good, though, all in all. ;)

You Should Be a Film Writer

You don't just create compelling stories, you see them as clearly as a movie in your mind.

You have a knack for details and dialogue. You can really make a character come to life.

Chances are, you enjoy creating all types of stories. The joy is in the storytelling.

And nothing would please you more than millions of people seeing your story on the big screen!

Readin' and Writin'

Since I have two loves (music notwithstanding) I decided to split my posting between them. Tuesdays will be dedicated to reading, Thursdays to writing.

On Tuesdays, I'll talk about the books currently in my TBR (to be read pile) and which books I'm eagerly anticipating. Every other Tuesday, I'll post a book review. Authors, let me know when you have a new release and I'll be happy to add it to my list.

Thursdays, hopefully I'll have something witty and insightful to say about writing and life in general. Hope springs eternal... ;)

Also, on Friday, October 17th I'll be posting about what separates the published from the unpublished on Dayana Knight's blog so please come visit me!

Forks in the path

I had an epiphany of sorts today, prompted by too little sleep, some wise comments from people I trust, and my own oft-ignored better judgment. Someone very smart told me recently that I'm a round peg trying to fit myself into a square hole, and more and more, I see that's true. I love to write. It's truly what I love best in the world (not counting music, which is a whole other subject) but I've lost some of that joy lately. Some of that is because I like creating more than revising, and I've been in revision land for a while. But the bigger issue is I've allowed my desire to get published ASAP get ahead of writing the kind of stories I like to read, even if my skill level isn't quite there yet. Although I'll read most anything someone puts in front of me - even cereal boxes - I like quirky stories that don't fit the mold, with lots of sexual tension and witty banter and plenty of action. A true mix of light and dark with characters that aren't typical and don't have the typical relationship. But that's not what I've been trying to write. I've been toying with writing what's "hot" and then wondering why my muse has run screaming.

I haven't ruled out anything yet, but I do know I'm not going to write stories I don't love. If I'm meant to get published one day, I will. But it won't matter if I'm not having fun doing the thing I've always wanted to do most.

One woman attempts to get published...

My journey of 1,000 steps to publication started sometime ago, but I'm not there yet. I'm a persistent bugger, though, so I'm determined to make writing my career. I love to lose myself in the stories of my favorite authors, so I'm looking forward to the day my books do the same for others.

That day's coming...I know it is.

Who am I? My name is Cari and I've been writing since I was a teenager (well, before that, really, but that's when I committed myself to the task) but I've only been serious about my craft for the last two years or so. I've learned a lot and I've made a couple writer friends - but I'd LOVE to make more.

Right now, I'm working on edits for my two Harlequin Blaze-targeted mss, but I'm also working on an erotic paranormal novella targeted to Red Sage and will begin writing a Scarlet Rosette soon that I'm targeting to The Wild Rose Press. (Older woman + Younger Man = Fun!)

I'm also an editor at a romance publisher, and a proofreader/graphic designer at a newspaper. So, yeah, I'm busy. But I can't wait to meet more people to share this crazy journey with!
