I'm at Lindsay's Romantics...

here on Tuesday, talking about author branding. Please stop by! Yeah, I know it's almost Wednesday, what can I say? Time's a fluid thing. ;)

Also, I have a thought for all of you to ponder...do you think writing has a rhythm? Can you feel when the notes are off, and if so, what do you about it? Do you keep typing anyway, hoping the overall melody evens out? Or do you start over from scratch? I had my own experience with that recently, which I will share later this week.

Oh, and if you didn't know...I can relate everything to music if I try hard enough.

And to brighten your almost-Wednesday...

I know what you mean. I normally feel myself going out of sync quicker than I see myself going out of sync and it almost always happens very early in the book. The result – a phenomenal amount of WIP’s. Cowardice I know, but I also know when I get the tone right and it sticks, it means a completed ms. Would love to know what you’re doing.
And of course, can’t gush enough about FD – I loved it!!!

I have a ton of WIPs because I'll stop a story if I'm not "feeling" it. Soon, I'm going to have to have a break through. :)

Hi Cari, interesting question. I'm too stubborn to admit defeat on a WIP. I believe there's always something you can do to fix an issue, even if it involves a lot of rewriting. Plus, it's that perfectionist thing again - I just can't let a WIP fail, cause then I would have failed. If it's not flowing for some reason? I'll edit instead or create a spreadsheet. I'm very analytical as well so for each manuscript I have I generate a number of spreadsheets (characterization, ARCs, chapter summaries, emmotion maps, etc.). I'm still thinking about the story but in a different way and sometimes something will just click and I'll know what I need to do!

Yes! A story definitely has a rhythm, pace and if you're not feeling, sometimes you have go back and find where the rhythm faltered. LOL. I also have some experience with that.

Off to stalk, er, follow you to Lindsay's Romantics. ; )

Oh yes-- I know writng has a rhythm. If mine is off, the story doesn't work. I do know what you mean. I have many stories I've started and the rhythm wasn't right. So the story is not finished. Maybe someday?

I tend to push through, but I do try going for a walk or a bike ride before things get too ugly. Usually by the time I get home I know what I need to do to make things "sing" again.

Your hunk is one of my all time favorites.

I think I'm tone deaf when it comes to music, but I love a beat, a rhythm. and a pace in writing, so maybe I'm not so tone deaf after all. :-)

If a scene feels off I can't move on until I've sorted it out. But then I always edit as as I go, just can't turn off that internal editor!!
