Looking for the blog hop posts? Scroll down the page!

I'm so excited to have erotic romance author Nona Raines on my blog today. Why? Because she's not only an incredible author, she's also a fellow member of my local RWA chapter, CNYRW. She's here to celebrate her newest release THE PERFECT MAN (check out that DELICIOUS cover!) and is offering up some terrific prizes to some lucky winners. Read on for how you can win! Winners will be announced early next week.

Here's Nona!

I'd like to thank Cari for letting me be here today to share a little bit about my newest erotic romance.  "Her Perfect Man" is being released today by The Wild Rose Press.  Here's a little bit about it:

Kim Hansen has terrible luck with men. When her sexy downstairs neighbor shows a more-than-neighborly interest in her, she's suspicious. She's been burned too many times, by too many guys. Charlie Keller is smart, hot and successful-- so what does he want with her besides a few nights of pleasure?

Though Kim does her best to shut him down, Charlie's not put off by her attitude. He doesn't scare easy. Kim thinks she's clever, using sex to keep him off guard and to maintain her emotional distance. But Charlie sees through her prickly exterior to her tender heart beneath.

But Kim needs to be won over. Sure, their bedroom action is awesome, but given her past mistakes, she's convinced that Charlie is too good to be true. Just too perfect. But if Charlie has his way, he'll prove that he's the perfect man for her.

I've had a soft spot for Kim since she appeared as a supporting character in my first book and have wanted to write her story for a long time. She's so used to guys who let her down that Charlie's interest confuses her. He's different from men she's known before. He makes it clear from the start that he not only wants her—he likes her! But can Kim let down her guard long enough for those feelings to become something more?

I had a lot of fun writing this emotional and sexy story. Let me share an excerpt with you here:

He spoke just as she slipped her key in the lock. "Kim. What's this really about?"
She stopped dead. "What do you mean?"
"Does this have anything to do with your ex-boyfriend?"
She could pretend not to know what Charlie meant, but what for? Seeing Adam tonight with his girl had knocked her for a loop. The way he looked at her. She wanted to be the focus of someone's attention, too. If only for one night.
Before she could answer, Charlie spoke. "Because I don't like the idea of being anyone's second best."
Her forehead creased in confusion. "What?"
"I want you to know you're here with me. Not that you're pretending I'm him."
"You're not him." She threw her arms around his neck and kissed him to show just how much she wanted him. He responded, but when she drew back, she saw the hesitancy in his eyes.
"I don't usually do things this way," he told her. "Assbackward."
Kim knew Charlie was right. They were rushing things. She was rushing them. There was always a part of her that knew better. Every time she dived headfirst into deep water without checking for crocodiles, part of Kim would shake her head and think big mistake. But the other part, the part that needed to feel good, needed someone's arms around her, always won out. Even if she knew it wasn't real, wasn't love. For a little while, she'd feel less alone.
"Really?" She made her voice airy as she at last unlocked the door. "You mean you don't usually sleep with a woman on the first date? You're lucky I'm so easy, then."
"Don't." His hand grasped her elbow and when she looked at him he was glowering. "Don't call yourself that."
"Whatever. Look, if you don't want to be here—"
****
She was doing it again. Little Miss Hot and Cold. Drawing him close with one hand while her other pushed him away. How could someone with such a smart mouth and "I don't give a shit" attitude be so insecure?
"Listen up." Charlie's voice was firm. "I do want to be here." There were a lot of things he wanted to say, but he used humor to defuse the situation. "Give me a break, all right?" He hitched his mouth into a lopsided grin. "I'm not used to being treated like a sex object."
Kim grinned back, her stiff shoulders relaxing. "Well, you are." She opened the door and slipped her fingers behind his belt, pulling him inside. "Make the most of it."

To celebrate the release of "Her Perfect Man", I'm giving away a $10 Amazon gift certificate and a digital copy of the book to two random commenters. Have you ever been in a situation where something seemed too good to be true? How did it work out?

I met a man on a tuesday, went out on wednesday and by the weekend was scared stupid by the overwhelming feelings I was having towards him. Left one of those way too informative messages on his answering machine that I wanted to take back immediately. Saw him that night and he simply took my hand and said he was scared too but thought it was worth exploring.

We have been married for 13+ years now ;)

i was alone crying because of the loss of my dog,in the middle of the campagne trying to find a new puppy and suddenly one woman was there was when she asked why i was crying and i told the reason she very kindly told me everything was going to be fine. I went back to where i was staying ( internat) and when i came back i had a call telling me that the woman has a friend that had a friend ( etc ^^;;) that just got puppies and i could have one. It semmed to magical , i was afraid to go to the address and find it was just a joke but now it was true, small puppies , two days old, waiting to be chosen ( but not taken yet of course) and i found my new friend that later saved my life

Some times you can really believe in people you don't even know

all the best and thanks you for the giveaway

It's always said that art imitates life, but in kassandra's case, life imitated a romance novel! I love Kim's character--she's been kicked to the curb so many times, but keeps jumping back up.

Kassandra, what a wonderful story! Sometimes when things happen so quickly, we're convinced that they're too good to be true. How wonderful that you were brave enough to be honest and that your man was enough to admit he was scared, too. Congratulations on your happy marriage!

Isabelle, I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. What a marvelous event, to have that lady show up and comfort you. And then to have her connect you with a new best friend pup! I'm so happy that worked out for you. That's serendipity for you. Sometimes we really can depend on the kindness of strangers. You've made me very curious on how your pet saved your life. Would you care to share?

Sounds awesome, Nona! Loved the excerpt. Sweet guy from just those few lines. Most would love to be just a sex object.

;)

CONGRATS on your release!

Hi Danica, I really enjoyed writing about Kim because her tough exterior was really a cover to hide the fear of being hurt. She certainly had a lot of layers.

Hi Taryn. I really loved Charlie. He is a sweet guy, but he has a backbone, too. Kim gives him a hard time, but he stands up to her. Thanks for your good wishes.

Whenever it looks too good to be true, it always is. Nothing in life is easy..and if it is, then you're gonna get your butt bit on the other side.

Nona Raines said...

Jenn, you're right. It's important to look at what's behind the shiny wrapping. But we've had a couple of wonderful examples today of "too good to be true" working out wonderfully!

I have not really had an situations where something seemed too good to be true. But I do think that sometimes things happen at just the right moment in life. My oldest nephew was at his first doctor's visit with his new pediatrician. It was then he had his first seizue, one that caused his breathing to stop and him to turn first blue then black. VERY scary!!! But the doctor of course knew just what to do and after a couple of years on medication, he was weaned off and so far no more seizures in over 8 years. We are watching carefully cause he is almost 11 and we were warned to watch him around puberty, that they could come back. And since both of his older sisters also have seizures, we are very watchful.

This does sound like a really good story. I really like that Charlie knows from the start that he wants more from Kim than just her body.

Great story! Evie, a girl who just wants to be wanted. Charlie, a man who wants to be more than just used. I love the cover. Besides a great body, his pose looks reluctant, but hopeful I'm going to have to have this book.

June, yes, I think you're right about things sometimes happening at exactly the best time. I don't know if that's serendipity or good luck or part of a bigger plan, but it's fortunate things turn out that way. How lucky for your nephew that his seizure happened in the doctor's office. I'm glad he's doing so much better. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.

Nona Raines said...

ReneAva, your story and Kassandra's would make great romance novels. Your story also reminds me of the scene in the movie "Crazy Stupid Love" when the girl spends the night with Ryan Gosling and they do everything but have sex! I'm glad your "one night stand" turned into a happily ever after!

Nona Raines said...

bn100, thanks for stopping by and checking out the excerpt!

Sandy, yes, the cover is totally drool-worthy! Charlie is a teacher but plays basketball for recreation and enjoys outdoor sports--I guess that's what keeps him in shape! Whew, did it just get hot in here?

Hi books4me, yes Kim's tough exterior really covers up a soft heart. The story goes into some of the reasons why she has that hard shell. I hope readers will be touched. Thanks for stopping by!

elaing8, I hear you! They haven't generally turned out well for me, either! But at least in fiction, we can have the happy endings we hope for! Thanks for commenting.
