Welcome Samhain author S.L. Carpenter!
Welcome S.L. Carpenter to the blog! Doesn't OWNED's HAWT cover make you eager to read more? I know I am! Read on for the blurb and for a very intriguing question, not to mention an opportunity to enter to win a Kindle giveaway!
Open topic blogs are scary.
It means there are no rules so I can talk about anything.
Like what my favorite sexual positions are, is porn a good guide to understanding women, if it is fun to add food to your sex life.
But I guess I'll be safe and talk about a new book I have coming out on January 17th with Samhain Publishing.
OWNED - I wrote abook dealing with something I found interesting.
What would it be like to have control over someone. Not in a BDSM kind of relationship but just to be in control, totally. If they want sex they get it. If they feel like spoiling the woman, they will.
It also had me thinking about the other person that releases control to another person. How that trust would free them sexually and mentally. To not worry about what to do, what to say, what they wanted. A woman would have a man ordering food for them on a date or telling what they want sexually.
I would be interested in hearing what the readers think about something like this.
OWNED's blurb:
Ownership comes with a price. Make sure you’re prepared to pay it.
Friends with benefits? Eric and Lauren are definitely that. A Friday night, a hotel, and a night of hot, satisfying sex. That’s it. Recently, though, Eric finds himself wanting more. More time, more fun, more Lauren.
Trouble is, she’s all tied up in her career, totally uninterested in getting tied down. How will she react when he musters up the guts to ask her for what he really wants: her to be completely his for one weekend. To let him own her, body and soul.
Lauren is sure Eric is just overthinking their strictly casual relationship. Still, the thought of doing exactly what he wants, whenever and wherever he wants, intrigues her. What’s not to like about letting go, handing everything over to a man she trusts in every way?
Their getaway is more sensual, more daring, more perfect than either of them anticipated. Until that most feared of emotions raises its head and takes aim at their hearts.
Product Warnings
Contains references to ownership, domination and complete submission; extra panties may be required, along with ice. This is not a book about training your pets, so treats and squeaky toys are not necessary, unless you’re into that...

Welcome erotic romance author Lissa Matthews! Giveaway!
Yay, I've got a special treat for all of you today. Lissa Matthews is not only an amazing author, she's also a total sweetheart. I'm lucky to count her as a friend and she's always been so helpful and giving with her time. She was kind enough to come on my blog to help celebrate her recent release TWISTED UP (look at that hot cover!) and as part of the celebration, we're giving away a copy of the book!
Trust me, Lissa writes some DELICIOUS heroes! (Vinter from Simple Need anyone?) I'm also loving her new self-pub series that starts with MASKED...you need to go check those stories out if you enjoy m/m! They're really sexy, wonderful novellas that are priced just right!
I can't wait to read TWISTED UP and I know you'll love it too! So just leave a comment or question for Lissa and you'll be entered to win! Contest will run until 12/27, winner announced shortly thereafter (along with the Stuff Your Stockings winner!)
Take it away, Lissa!
One rope. Three days. And two hearts on
the line.
Justin has had enough. Ella, the woman who healed his broken heart, has been cancelling on him for two months straight. Sure, she’s busy with her job, which has her traveling far and wide. But that never stopped her from sharing nights of trivia, long conversations and blazing hot sex—until now. Truth to tell, he misses their easy friendship, the way her sighs fill his ear as he fills her body.
What he can’t figure out is, what’s changed?
At work, Ella finds it easy to talk to rooms full of strangers. Once back at her lonely apartment, though, she’s back to her painfully shy self—until Justin. Their chance meeting grew over the months into a year-long affair, but she can’t shake the feeling that rejection and pain are just around the corner. Best thing to do? End it now, before their intimacy digs too deep.
Suddenly he’s at her door with a length of neon-green rope and a naughty proposition, daring her to say no. Just how good could it be? There’s only one way to find out…
Warning: The sheets are tangled, the hat is crumpled, and the jeans are worn low on the hips. The cowboy is hot, determined, and helpless in the face of bunny slippers. Readers may need extra batteries to get this one out of their system.
You can find Twisted Up at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Samhain Publishing. You can find out more about me on my website, Twitter, and Facebook.

Take it away, Lissa!
This is the first time I’ve been on Cari’s blog and I’m
thrilled to be here. I can’t think of a better Christmas gift for myself!
My name is Lissa Matthews. I write contemporary erotic
romance for Samhain Publishing, Ellora’s Cave, Loose Id, and most recently I
ventured into self publishing.
I’m sure y’all already know this, but Cari is a wonderful
person and there’s no better time of year than to tell her so than this. She’s
been a good friend to me over the years I’ve been in this business. She’s been
there for support when I’ve received bad reviews and amazing ones. She’s beta
read for me and offered her honest opinions. She’s always there with a kind and
uplifting word, always offering a smile.
She’s one of my favorite people and… she loves coffee.
She invited me here to help me get the word out about my new
release from Samhain Publishing, Twisted Up. It came out Tuesday and is my
first release from a publisher in a year. Lovingly and laughingly, I have
referred to the characters as Cowboy Justin and his girl Ella for months now.
It’s one of my very favorite books I’ve written and it’s full of emotion and
sex and Ella does a great deal of gawking at Justin in his jeans and boots.
It was a fun story to write and I hope readers will end up
loving it as much as I do.
Here’s the blurb for Twisted Up:

of you have a very wonderful holiday.

Welcome Samhain author Jeanette Grey
Stuff Your Stockings Blog Hop winner announced soon! Til then, check out the great post below!
Jeanette's here today on her blog tour for her recent Samhain release, UNACCEPTABLE RISK. Check out that gorgeous cover! The book sounds amazing, so go pick it up!
After brief,
unsatisfying careers in advertising, teaching, computers, and homemaking,
Jeanette Grey has returned to her two first loves: romance and writing.
Jeanette's here today on her blog tour for her recent Samhain release, UNACCEPTABLE RISK. Check out that gorgeous cover! The book sounds amazing, so go pick it up!
Behind Every Strong
Man…
It's been said a million times: behind every great man is a
great woman.
But in this day and age, does it really have to be that way?
I'm not going to lie. What draws me into a book is the hero.
It never fails. I love them hot, smart…and preferably tortured. Show me a good
man to fall in love with, and I am hooked. Immediately.
But what makes a romance novel great for me – what makes it memorable and re-readable – is a
strong heroine. Someone who can hold her own and who wants more out of life
than just a guy. Someone who gives as good as she gets. Someone who, even after
finding the love of her life, is still herself. Just better.
Strong heroines are hard to find, though, and they're even
harder to write. Our culture draws a very fine line between 'strong woman' and
… well, a word that rhymes with witch. Women are supposed to be accommodating,
supportive and, more often than not, submissive; when they break from that
mold, they run the risk of becoming unlikable.
But they also have a chance of becoming real.
Creating a strong heroine was key to the inception of my
debut novella, Unacceptable Risk. In
something of a role reversal from the typical romance, the heroine, Plix, is
the one out there on the front lines. Driven to expose the person she believes
responsible for poisoning her city and killing her parents, she's turned
herself into a one-woman army, capable of infiltrating enemy strongholds and
recording everything she sees, all to be used as evidence against the corrupt
powers she's trying to take down. Because her life is so dangerous, she doesn't
see love as an option.
It's a common dilemma for the strong heroine. Unwilling to
be seen as weak or to depend on anyone else, it's hard to let others in, much
let yourself fall in love.
The closest she's ever come to letting someone really know
her is her friend Edison. While he's not the one out there kicking ass and
taking names, he's integral to everything she does, repairing her systems and
working behind the scenes to keep her safe. He's an ideal, swoony hero, and
he's also the perfect counterpoint to Plix. He loves her because she's strong; he wouldn't want her to be anyone except
exactly who she is.
When these two do finally admit their feelings for each
other – when she finally allows herself to let him in – there's no change in
their relative positions. Plix learns that she can still fight for justice
while also taking something for herself. She learns that she can be a better version of herself, because she's
allowed herself to be supported by Edison's love.
And isn't that the heart of any great love story? Finding
someone who loves us for exactly who and what we are? Someone who challenges us
to grow?
I'd say so.
So I say it's time to put that old saying away. For me,
behind every great man is…well, nothing. Because the woman who loves him is
standing right beside him, holding his hand.
And both of them are better because of it.
About Unacceptable Risk:
Plix spends her
lonely, gritty life trying to solve the mysteries her father left behind. Armed
with a variety of cybernetic enhancements and a talent for getting into places
she shouldn’t be, she searches for clues to his murder—and who’s responsible
for poisoning her city.
Waking up on a
street corner with her brain wiring fried to a crisp, she figures she must have
gotten close this time. There’s only one man she trusts to pull her back from
the brink: a tuner who can retrieve the evidence hidden deep in the recesses of
her mind. A man she dares not let too close to her heart.
When Edison
downloads a secret SynDate schematic from Plix’s burnt-out circuitry, he knows
with dreadful finality that nothing—not even the fiery kiss he’s been holding
back for years—will stop her from pursuing her quest past the point of
insanity.
All he can do, as
he helps her plan her final mission, is ease her pain, watch her back…and hope
one of them doesn’t pay with their lives.

Six Sentence Sunday, Unwrapped style, part four
Looking for the Stuff Your Stockings Christmas Blog Hop? Check out the post below this one!
It's Six Sentence Sunday! This week I'm sharing the fourth excerpt from my newly released m/m/f Christmas menage, Unwrapped. Enjoy!
“You said you wanted it to be one
of us who took your virginity, but what if it were both of us?”
“Uh, you can’t lose your
virginity twice.”
“You think?” Matt licked the inside
of his lower lip, and Cait's nipples pushed against her bra. “I think you should
let us prove otherwise. Let both of us make love to you, together.”

Stuff Your Stockings Christmas Blog Hop
Welcome to the Stuff Your Stockings Christmas Blog Hop! Thanks so much to Drea for organizing this amazing hop! There's so much you can win! At my blog, a random commenter will win a $10.00 GC to either Amazon/Barnes & Noble/Ellora's Cave (winner's choice) and also their choice of 2 of my e-books.
How to enter? Check out the end of this post! In the meantime...
Five Reasons to Read UNWRAPPED - my sexy Christmas contemporary menage romance
1 ~ It's sexy. So sexy that some readers have fallen asleep with their faces pressed to their iPad because they wanted to keep reading! Unwrapped is more than sex, but the characters explore many of their issues through sex. If that sounds like something that might work for you, give it a try!
2 ~ I mentioned it was sexy, right? How sexy? It's a m/m/f about three best friends who become lovers in a cabin in the mountains. They explore LOTS of stuff together in one wild weekend. I won't say just what, other than it pretty much runs the gamut from romantic to down and dirty, no limits, full-on…well, you get the drift!
3 ~ Like friends to lovers stories? Me too! And Unwrapped has three best friends, Cait, Matt and Tristan, who fall in love. Personally I say the more the merrier!
4 ~ Ever wondered what would happen if you discovered something shocking about people you love and trust? That happens with Cait…she walks in on her best friends and it turns out to be the best thing that's ever happened to her! This story isn't ALL just sex (although I personally think it's plentiful and yummy) but really emotional with a thread of angst too. These three friends really have to work hard for their HEA!
5 ~ Nothing says the holiday season like hot sex by the Christmas tree! (Okay, so that's a stretch, but I needed a 5th thing!)
Don't believe me? Here's what Pearl from Pearl's World of Romance had to say about UNWRAPPED, which she gave a 10 out of 10 and a PERFECT read designation! "The sex scenes nearly did me in. They are so hot and so excellently written. I’ve said it before and I'll say it again and keep repeating it till the day I quit reviewing romance novels: when it comes to sizzling, explicit, arousing sex scenes no one beats Cari Quinn. It's like she goes into my head and finds what I find extremely hot and puts that on paper."
Unwrapped's blurb:
Caitlyn Sachs has a great life. A family she loves, check. An incredible design job working with her best friends, Tristan and Matt, check. An amazing home she shares with the guys, double check. But her upcoming twenty-fifth birthday and the desire to shed the burden of her virginity have spurred her to consider something shocking. All she wants is one uncomplicated night with one of her best friends, no strings attached. But how can she choose?
Except there’s another problem. Tristan and Matt are already involved sexually with each other, much to Cait’s shock. And both men have long harbored feelings for Cait that go way beyond friendship. When they whisk her away for her birthday to a cabin in the mountains, she discovers the extent of their lust—and her own. The gift they give her is one she'll never forget.
But when the weekend's over, will she retreat to the safety of the status quo, if they'll even let her, or will she finally embrace what she's secretly craved for so long?

Six Sentence Sunday, Unwrapped, part 3
Cait kept moving toward
Tristan’s bedroom. Crazy or not, she had to know which woman was in there with Matt and Tristan. She’d just ease open the door, peek in, get
the scoop, and back out with no one the wiser.
But the door was already open,
just enough for her to see the action on the bed and the two
figures going at it.
Two.
Only two.

UNWRAPPED should be available soon on Amazon and Barnes and Noble and I'll update this post with those links as soon as it is.
And...UNWRAPPED's already received a 10/10 Perfect Read designation from Pearl's World of Romance and 4.75 Stars out of 5 from Maldivian Book Reviewer's Realm of Romance. Check out Pearl's review HERE and MBR's review HERE. Thanks so much for both reviews!
Quote from Pearl's review: The sex scenes nearly did me in. They are so hot and so excellently written. I’ve said it before and I'll say it again and keep repeating it till the day I quit reviewing romance novels: when it comes to sizzling, explicit, arousing sex scenes no one beats Cari Quinn. It's like she goes into my head and finds what I find extremely hot and puts that on paper.
Quote from Maldivian Book Reviewer's review: In true Cari Quinn style, Unwrapped charmed and enticed me to look beyond the surface to find out that underneath all the panty-drenching hot sex, there is ALWAYS plenty of emotion and character development happening in her novels that just makes Cari’s style of erotica unbeatable.
But the fun's not over yet! I'm over on the amazing Erin Nicholas's Yahoo author loop today (you haven't read her books yet? reaaaaallly? they're incredible!) talking Christmas and giving away a copy of UNWRAPPED to a commenter. Erin's also giving away some amazing goodies so come on over and join us for some Christmas cheer! Click HERE to join.
Thank you SO much to everyone who's supported me by buying my books, offering kind words, doing RTs on Twitter, writing reviews, telling others about my stories and/or by being a friend. You all mean the world to me and I can't express how amazing it is to live my dream of being a writer. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

guttural. “I want in those pants of yours, and I’m going to get there. But only
if you say yes first.”
To his surprise, Cait gave him a
small smile and rubbed her palm over her wool-clad thigh. “I’m wearing a dress.”
“Is that a yes?”
She paused just long enough to
make him want to drop to his knees and say a loud, fervent prayer. “No.” He
still hadn’t recovered from her answer when her smile widened. “That’s a hell
yes, please.”
He soon found himself on his
knees anyway, close enough to her heat to breathe her in. He translated the
confusion on her face as he rolled up her dress, revealing her pale legs. No
stockings or garters. Just pure, untouched flesh.
Really untouched.
His mouth went dry, and he
glanced up to seek her permission again. This wasn’t some random girl he’d
hooked up with in a bar. It also wasn’t Tristan, who not only took what he
dished out but served it right back up to him. This was the girl he’d loved so
long, platonically and then otherwise, that he hardly remembered the years
before she’d come into his life. It felt like she’d always been there. Always
would be.
Trying to get himself back in
line, he kissed the inside of her knee. She touched his hair, reaching down to
loosen his ponytail like he’d done with hers. She brushed her fingers over the
back of his neck, saying more with that one gesture than she could have with a
thousand words.
I
want you. I trust you. I love you.

Unwrapped: Naughty Teaser
First off, I'm part of NOR'S Winter Wonderland Hunt. If you're here for that, feel free to look around or hop right to the Undercover Lovers page to find out the answer to my question. :)
It's almost time to get UNWRAPPED. That's right, this Tuesday Dec 6th just happens to be the release day! I'm not excited at all. I mean, I don't love, love, love friends to lovers stories. And I don't like office romances. I especially don't enjoy hot man loving between two guys I ended up falling in love with right along with Cait. She's one lucky girl is all I gotta say.
So I figured I'd post a little of Chapter One. See what you think and come back next week for prizes and other fun stuff as I celebrate UNWRAPPED's release (and my birthday!)

Cait strolled down the hall that
branched off into three sections. Matt’s was first, hers in the middle. But
instead of heading straight for her set of rooms, she hesitated.
It was too quiet. Unnaturally so.
A line of sweat trickled down
between her shoulder blades. Slowly, she unwound her scarf. She’d forgotten to
take off her outer clothes. No wonder she was hot. She had no reason to be
nervous in her own house.
Did she?
Then she heard a heavy scraping
sound, like furniture being moved, and she pressed her back to the wall. Oh
God. She’d known something was wrong. The lights were off, so who the hell
would be moving furniture? Maybe someone had broken in and overpowered the
guys. They could be tied up even now or worse. Maybe the serial killer was
rolling their bodies up in the rug in Tristan’s living room.
She shoved her fist into her
mouth to keep from making a noise. The smart thing to do would be to run
downstairs and get help. Maybe the police would arrive in time.
A groan ripped through the air,
disturbing the silence so fully that the sound echoed. And it sure didn’t seem
like pain. Well, not regular pain. She’d heard that particular sound before
when guys --
Again. A long, low sound of
pleasure. She bit down on her knuckles, forgetting the cheese puffs she held
under her arm. The bag clattered to the floor, but whoever was boinking in the
bedroom couldn’t hear. Not when they were now screwing so loudly that the bed
was moving. Tristan’s bed. That had
been the noise she’d heard. They were going at it so hard that the frame kept
slamming against the wall.
Creak.
Creak. A pause. Slam.
Her stomach twisted, hard. The
beer suddenly tasted rancid on her
tongue.
Why should she be jealous?
Stupid. He was a talented lover. Of course women wanted him. Matt too. Women
wanted Matt, she amended, only half-aware that her feet were carrying her
closer to the bedroom instead of away.
The door to Tristan’s section was
shut. Though this level had been split equally into three distinct areas, the
doors that separated them from one another were usually only closed when someone
had a girlfriend or boyfriend over. Even then Matt in particular could be
counted on to leave the door cracked, as if he got off on the idea of making
his roommates listen to his bedroom antics. He was noisy as hell in bed,
grunting and yelling with the best of them. Honestly, she envied him. She sure
hadn’t ever experienced anything to elicit sounds like he regularly made.
Moans, sure. But grunts wrested from the depth of her soul?
That would be a no.
She stopped, her throat convulsing
at the new groans reverberating down the hall. That wasn’t Tristan. No way.
Matthew was in Tristan’s apartment, but why? Did they have a girl in there?
Were they having a threesome? They’d never told her they did stuff like that,
but single guys in their late[J3] twenties were apt to do any damn
thing.
More than ever, her virginity
felt like a giant weight pressing down on her chest. And other overstimulated
parts of her body.
If they were having a threesome,
why hadn’t they asked her? She was their frigging best friend. The one who
cleaned them up and dumped them into bed when they’d had too much fun on
Saturday night, the one who picked out presents for Matt’s mom because he hated
to and sent out office Christmas cards because Tristan’s handwriting looked
like a mass murderer’s. They were a trio, and as such, if they’d progressed to ménages,
it only made sense that she be the third spoke of their sexfest.
She rubbed her knuckles against
her hip and inhaled deeply. Wait, what? What in God’s name was she thinking?
She didn’t want to have a threesome. With them or anyone. Ordinary twosome sex
was vexing enough.
Fisting her hands, Cait continued
on until she reached Tris’s door. She pushed it open as quietly as possible and
stepped inside the darkened living room. Silence prevailed but only briefly.
Then the bed banging erupted again, more violently than before. The moans that
sliced through the night mixed and mingled, though each was distinct and
completely recognizable.
Jerks.

Six Sentence Sunday Unwrapped, part one
It's Six Sentence Sunday and this week I'm sharing the first excerpt from my upcoming m/m/f Christmas menage, Unwrapped, releasing 12/6 from Loose Id. Enjoy!
Visit Unwrapped's Goodreads page HERE
Find more Six Sentence Sunday goodness HERE.
Caitlyn, as the eldest, was the
one her mother counted on to be the “good girl.” So far she hadn’t let her down
on that score. She had her hormones under control -- except
for that pesky little problem of her virginity -- and her goals mapped out to
the nth degree.
Besides, she had a plan to handle
said virginity. She intended to ask her best
friends which one of them wanted to do the honors.
C’mon,
it’ll be quick -- a couple of thrusts and done!

Unwrapped's cover!
Coming 12/6 (my birthday!) to Loose Id! Isn't it gorgeous? Huge thanks to the amazing Valerie Tibbs!
http://www.loose-id.com/Unwrapped.aspx
Here's the tentative blurb:
But when the weekend's over, will she retreat to the safety of the status quo, if they'll even let her? Or will she finally embrace what she's secretly craved for so long?

“Look, I’ll just give you Lonny’s phone and you can return it to him when you want.”
“Wait,” Karyn said as Jeff set the familiar navy cell on the table. “You’re not going to tell me any more than that? Why do you care if I stay married?” She narrowed her eyes. “Is my husband sleeping with someone important to you?”

Welcome Romance Author Erin Nicholas! And Contest!
So I've told this story before, how Erin Nicholas writes books that make me stay up all night long on work nights to finish them. Seriously, can you imagine? And then she has to go and keep writing MORE amazing books...which reminds me, she has a brand new release out just yesterday from Samhain, HOTBLOODED.
I have my copy...and if you comment after reading Erin's post, you might just win yours! If you don't, go buy it. Because Erin's books=awesome. But Marc from ANYTHING YOU WANT is mine, just saying.
Here's Erin! And don't forget to leave her a question or comment with your email included if you want to be entered in the drawing (you do! trust me, you do!)
I love writing heroes who come to other people’s rescues—sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively. Often the guys I write are reluctant heroes. Ben Torres, Sam Bradford, Mac Gordon, Marc Sterling… yep, all pretty reluctant. They don’t want to be the knight in shining armor. They want to be the bad boys, they want to have a good time, they want to avoid the complications. Yet… they can’t help it in the end. Certainly for the heroine, but even for other people around them.
*sigh*. Reluctant heroes are fun. Because it really shows the depth of their feelings when they step up anyway.
Then I also have a soft spot for the quiet heroes. The ones who do the right thing, are rock solid, always steady, but don’t call attention to their actions. I’m married to one of these. I don’t need dragons slayed or villains battled, but I do need someone to vanquish the things that suck my time and energy and make me less than happy—like laundry. That’s right, he does laundry. All the laundry. All the time. He also shares in cooking, does dishes and grocery shops! Which leaves me time to write. Since I work and we have two kids, giving me time to write this way is a precious gift.
So I really like both reluctant and quiet heroes.
Which is why Jack Silver, the hero in my newest release, Hotblooded, made me a little nervous. When I “met” Jack, I immediately recognized that he was different. He’s not just willing and able to do the right thing, to help people, to take the lead… he thrives on it. He’s an ER physician because he likes to be the hero. His brother (who happens to be a psychiatrist) accuses him of having a super-hero complex. Which Jack doesn’t deny.
He’s pretty in-your-face—in a sexy and charming way, of course ;) -- about doing whatever it takes to make things right. So when he feels obligated to the heroine, Brooke, there’s no getting rid of him. Brooke doesn’t want him around, doesn’t want his help and doesn’t appreciate his pushy ways. But that doesn’t slow Jack down at all.
Here’s what I mean:
“I’m going to help you make this clinic successful.”
Oh, no he wasn’t. Hell no.
For one thing, she didn’t want anyone’s help with anything. Second of all she didn’t want this clinic to be successful. She was here temporarily to fulfill her contract. Period. She crossed her arms and lifted her chin. “I don’t need your help.”
“So you’ve been telling me since I got to town.”
“When are you going to start listening?”
“When you don’t need help anymore.”
She stared at him for several ticks of the clock. Then she said tightly, “I am perfectly capable of seeing the patients scheduled today. That’s the nice thing about having a small caseload.”
“That’s why you should let me help. Let’s build this up, do some renovations maybe, get some—”
“You think we should renovate.” Really? He wanted to put up curtains or something? That’s what all of this was about?
He lifted a shoulder. “Just make it feel a little warmer and friendlier.”
“You think people aren’t coming in because of how we painted the waiting room?” Not that she loved the waiting room either. It was boring and, okay, cold. But that wasn’t why she could hear crickets up there.
“New paint can’t hurt, can it?”
“We’re not repainting.”
He waited until she’d brushed past him.
When her hand was on the swinging door he said, “Fine. But that still leaves one issue un-attended to.”
Don’t ask. Keep walking. Leave. But she asked, “What issue?” anyway.
“The issue of you needing a supervising physician as of…let’s see…oh, yes. Today. Right now.”
She stood stock still at the door for several long seconds. Then she turned. Even once she faced him again, she didn’t speak right away. Finally she asked simply, “You?”
He grinned, clearly pleased in spite of her lack of enthusiasm. “Yes. Me. You need a supervising physician to practice as a physician’s assistant. I’m a physician. It works perfectly.”
She frowned at him. “How did you know I needed a supervisor?” But she held up a hand as the answer came to her. “Carla.” Clearly her nurse—and former friend—had filled Jack in on the fact that Dr. Cunningham was retiring and that there was no replacement yet. The patients on the schedule today were the last ones she could see until someone stepped up to supervise her.
She hadn’t been exactly pushing for that supervisor. All she had to do in this clinic was show up. Patients or not. Supervising physician or not.
So what if that bugged her a little? So what if she was a little bored, knew she was wasting her time and knew there were patients she could be helping? It wasn’t like they were going without medical care entirely. They had to drive an hour but no one was dying. And she didn’t want to get attached. She’d gotten attached in San Antonio and then had to leave. It had been hard on her patients and on her. She wasn’t going through that again. Especially here. She wasn’t staying even if she did get attached and that was that. Better not to have to say any tearful goodbyes.
He nodded. “She confirmed it.”
Brooke rolled her eyes. “It’s amazing the topics that come up over cups of cappuccino. I’m so glad we got that machine.”
He smiled widely. “Anyway, you need me.”
He shouldn’t seem so pleased by that. And she needed to get her imagination in check. She couldn’t go off on pornographic daydreams every time he said the word need or help
or take or…
She shook her head and asked, “So you think you’re going to be my supervising physician?”
“Yes.”
“What about your real job?”
“Leave of absence.”
“Indefinitely?”
“No.” But he didn’t elaborate.
She studied him for a moment, considering the information.
“You don’t know what you’re getting into,” she finally said, simply, but honestly.
“I’m not worried.”
She sighed. “I know. But you probably should be.”
I can assure you that eventually Brooke comes around. I mean, who can resist a guy whose sole focus is making you happy?
“You should always show your true emotions. You shouldn’t close yourself up. People can tell when you’re holding back and it’s hard for them to trust that. You don’t have to have all the answers or be happy all the time. Just be real.”
“You want real?” she asked. “You want me to just do what I want, whatever I’m feeling, no worries about consequences?”
“I think you should do what makes you happy.”
She licked her lips and nodded, her eyes on his. “Okay. You asked for it.” She shrugged out of her jacket and let it drop to the floor behind her. Then she leaned in, wrapped her arms around his neck and put her lips against his. “Why is it whenever you’re within five feet of me I want to kiss you?”
Ah, consequences.
“Five feet? Hell, girl, I can’t be in the same town without wanting to kiss you.” Then he sealed his mouth over hers.
The moment she stroked her tongue along his, he put both hands under her butt and lifted her, turned, kicked her chair out of the way and set her on the edge of her desk.
So, how about you? Do you like the guys who swoop in and save the day, cape billowing behind them (figuratively ;) ) or do you like those guys who try to stay aloof but in the end can’t help being heroic? Personally, as long as they do laundry, I like ‘em all! :)
Erin

So, how about you? Do you like the guys who swoop in and save the day, cape billowing behind them (figuratively ;) ) or do you like those guys who try to stay aloof but in the end can’t help being heroic? Personally, as long as they do laundry, I like ‘em all! :)

Six Sentence Sunday...Hot Text part one
It's here! Hot Text, my latest Ellora's Cave release, came out this past Wed. 11/2. In this scene, Jeff and Karyn have just met for the first time...with results neither expected. ;)
“Mr. Maddox,” Karyn interrupted, lifting a brow, “I appreciate your concern, but you should save your breath because Lon and I are not reconciling.”
“But if you’d just—”
“Do you know how many orgasms I’ve had with him in the last three years?”
Again Jeff appeared stunned, his pupils widening as he opened and closed his mouth like a guppy. Then he shook his head.
“Few enough that it's lucky for him I have minimal needs or I might have divorced him a long time ago.”
Hot Text's blurb, excerpt and buy link are HERE (also available on Amazon, with more retail outlets available soon.)

Convincing Quinn by Chloe Cole (Christine Bell)
Book one in the Rock Hard series
Quinn Myles loves her life. She’s in a kick-ass rock band, and they’re on their way to the big-time. If only her two band-mates hadn’t told her how they felt, she could have controlled her own desires. Choosing between them might tear the band apart, but maybe, for one night, she can have them both.
Rex Campbell used to enjoy life on the road and the groupies that came with it. That was before he realized he was mad-crazy about Quinn Myles. He knows he’s the man for her and if it takes sharing her with Beau once to prove it, he will.
Beau’s willing. Now, to convince Quinn…

Head Games by Cassandra Carr
Leo Laporte and Scott Schaeffer are teammates on the ice and roommates off it who also share women. They’ve been coming into Kelly Chase’s bistro after games for months, and they know they want her. As the attraction grows, the men realize they want more than a one-night stand—they want forever.
Kelly’s not so sure. Yes, she wants both men, much to her own mortification. But a permanent ménage relationship? That’s taking giving her heart away to a whole new level, and a chance she’s hesitant to take. Then Leo is injured and Scott’s on the trading block, and she realizes this may be her only shot at true, everlasting love.
There are so many questions swirling around inside Kelly’s head. Can she believe in Leo and Scott’s love? And will her business and her reputation survive once people find out she’s with two men?

Hot Text by Cari Quinn (me!)
Sometimes what you think you want and what you need are two very different things.
As a technical editor, Jeffrey Maddox deals with plenty of words, leaving him few to spare on people, except his baby sister. To keep Daisy from wrecking her newly rehabbed life by shacking up with her older, married lover Lonny, he impulsively texts Lonny’s wife, Karyn. And then meets her at a coffee shop on a snowy night, ostensibly to convince her to stay with her philandering husband.
But soon texting turns to sexting. After spending the night getting to know Karyn, Jeff wants something much more personal—Lonny’s wife. For himself.
Despite her misgivings about Jeff’s intentions, Karyn can’t fight their attraction. She’s still not divorced, though she knows there’s no way she’ll return to her husband. But maybe an amazing night of conversation—and even more amazing lovemaking—can lead to more than just one night of hot text.
